Fishing Waters Of Southern Utah Part III

On the last article of Fishing Waters Of Southern Utah Part II we left off talking about the Fremont River. Now at a elevation of 8,700 feet is Fish Lake That has mackinaw which are lake trout ans cutthroat trout, brown trout, brook trout, rainbow trout and splake. To get to this lake take US 89to Sigurd then follow U-24 south to U-25 northeast. There is a forest service camp ground and picnic area. There are lodges, cabins, cafes and boats also. The lake trout get to 30 pounds and a few splake that are over 20 inches long. This lake is good for ice fishing for splake and rainbow trout. Check the special regulations for lake trout before you go. At an elevation of 3,600 feet located northeast of St George 16 miles off highway 56 is Gunlock Reservoir. Follow Santa Clara River north from Shivwits. There is a boat ramp with primitive camp grounds. This reservoir has a lot of crayfish and some big bass, crappie and catfish. Ivins Reservoir has Largemouth bass and catfish as well. At a elevation of 8,7500 feet located about three miles northeast of Fish Lake off highway25 is Johson Valley Reservoir with cutthroat trout and rainbow trout.Kents Lake is on Kents Lake Road off of U-153 15 miles east of Beaver. Kents Lake has brook trout, brown trout, rainbow trout and splake. About 18 miles north of Virgin on the edge of Zion National Park is Kolob Reservoir. There are no facilities avalable at the reservoir and artificial files and lures are to be used and there are only two trout allowed over 18 inches long. Kolob Creek is closed Januray 1 through 6:00 am on the second Saturday of July.
