Bass and Salmon

Informed fishermen who love to fish year round know the seasons and the best places to fish for bass or for salmon. There are literally thousands of freshwater areas throughout the world, such as rivers and lakes, where bass are found. Different geographical areas vary in the optimum times for great fish catches. For the most part, the fishing season for bass runs between the months of October and June. Saltwater bass fishing is yet another fantastic opportunity for catching bass. There are many bass species, such as largemouth, smallmouth, peacock, and black bass, just to name a few, and each is a perfect game fish.

Fishing for salmon is somewhat different than bass fishing, in that most of the salmon fishing is done during the massive annual salmon migrations to their spawning grounds. Generally, these migrations start during the month of June when the rivers begin their spring thaw. Salmon fishing can continue through the months of July, August, and into September. Another difference in fishing salmon as opposed to fishing bass is that salmon are mostly caught in rivers, while bass are typically caught in lakes.

Salmon caught in lakes are simply passing through on their way to their spawning grounds. Salmon species that are typically caught are king salmon, silver salmon, sock eye salmon, chum salmon, and pink salmon. Generally speaking, most bass fishing is cover type fishing. Bass love to hide out in secluded areas of rivers and lakes. Salmon, on the other hand, are traveling and do not hide, as they must refuel on the way by eating whatever seems to be available.
