From steelhead, five different species of salmon, shad, bass, smelt, sturgeon, to barricuda, shark and stingray, the West Coast of America boasts some of the best fishing spots in the world. Whether you want to fish Salmon in the waterways of the Pacific Northwest, saltwater sturgeon off San Pablo Bay, or fish off a pier in Southern California, the West Coast is the place for you.
It will be among giant forest of pine and cedar, cascading waterfalls and carpets of moss outside of Vancouver, British Columbia. Here you will fish for steehead and five species of salmon including chinook, chum, coho, pink and sockeye. The only thing missing is the large crowds in the over 30 different waterways, including three major rivers, the Kitimat, Nass and Skeena.
Hold onto your fishing rod when you're sturgeon fishing in San Pablo Bay. Saltwater sturgeon and striper bass can be found here, along with surfperch and flounder. The fish stories about sturgeon here range anywhere from throwing the "small" 64 inch ones back, to landing a 77 inch sturgeon. Anglers report 10 sturgeon for every bass caught. San Pablo is a very popular fishing destination for recreational fishers.
Deep sea fishing outside of San Diego will net you the large fish, but you can also enjoy fishing off many of the piers for such fish as shark, barracuda, stingray, mackeral, corbina, perch and croaker. There is also many popular places for sand fishing. Fishing licenses are not required for pier fishing and neither is fancy equipment.
